Zwickau Benefits Financially Despite Loss in Benefit Game against Dynamo Dresden

Zwickau. There are rarely two winners in football. But that was the case on Saturday in the Zwickau GGZ Arena. Unsurprisingly, the benefit game went 3-0 (2-0) to Dynamo Dresden on the sporting side, but the host can feel like the financial winner. The game in front of 5979 spectators flushed a lot of money into the tight coffers of FSV Zwickau, for whom the encounter against BFC Dynamo a week before the start of the season was the dress rehearsal.

Money blessing for the FSV Zwickau

After being relegated to the regional league, the West Saxons have great needs – and a hole of around one million euros, about half of which has to be plugged relatively quickly. With a crowdfunding campaign, they raised almost 200,000 euros within two weeks. The third division team from Dresden – the fans of both clubs have been close friends for many years – are also happy to support FSV with guest appearances.

And that despite the fact that the sports community from the state capital would have needed a stronger opponent than the newly assembled, little-rehearsed troupe of the “Schwanen” only two weeks before the start of the season. However, the FSV was very committed to work, especially in midfield, the home team gave their guests nothing. Stefan Kutschke (5th, 12th), Robin Meißner (13th) and Niklas Hauptmann (15th) couldn’t take their chances.

Ban broken after 30 minutes

In the 23rd minute, the ball was in the Zwickauer goal for the first time, but that was ruled out due to offside. Instead there was a free kick for the SGD, but it was harmless. Borkowski’s shot (25′) was deflected to a corner, after which he had the best chance of the SGD so far with a nice solo, but FSV goalkeeper Lucas Hiemann saved his shot with a lightning reaction (26′). His counterpart Kevin Broll in the Dresden case, on the other hand, was largely unemployed.

After half an hour the spell was broken. First, Niklas Hauptmann scored with a header (31st) to make it 1-0. And in the very next scene he picked up speed from the middle line, ran away from Philipp Heller and then served Stefan Kutschke in an exemplary manner, who easily increased it to 2-0 (32nd). A double whammy, as a result of which the interim result on the scoreboard now also corresponded to the balance of power on the pitch.

Schäffler increases after the break

In the 43rd minute, Tom Zimmerschied was cornered at the penalty spot and fell, but referee Christopher Gaunitz was not able to call a penalty. So it went into the break with a deserved 2-0 lead. At the beginning of the second half, Stefan Drljaca, Manuel Schäffler and Luca Herrmann came on for Kevin Broll, Stefan Kutschke and Tom Zimmerschied, the Zwickau team made four changes.

Immediately at the beginning of the second half the ball wriggled in the Dresden net, but the supposed Zwickau goal was disallowed for offside. Shortly thereafter, the doorbell rang on the other side. Meißner’s cross went straight to the head of Manuel Schäffler, who effortlessly scored to make it 3-0 (47′). He also “succeeded” in an offside goal (58′). Beginning then made a triple substitution, bringing on Vlachodimos, Oehmichen and Park for Borkowski, Meißner and Meier (61′).

The game flattened out a bit, Dynamo had more of the game, but rarely combined all the way to the front, FSV held back well. Fifteen minutes before the end, another triple change: Kraulich, Lehmann and Menzel replaced Lewald, Kammerknecht and Hauptmann (77′). In this way, Markus Anfang also gave the supplementary players some match practice. His probable starting eleven, on the other hand, is becoming more and more clear.

The Dynamos were 3-0 up until the end. Only Paul Will and Kevin Ehlers, who wore the Dresden captain’s armband this time, played through. In terms of sport, the black and yellow have certainly not uprooted any trees. But both fan camps were able to celebrate each other and their teams. In the end, the most important thing this time anyway is that Zwickau will have income so that they can continue.

Dynamo: Broll (46th Drljaca) – Kammerknecht (77th Lehmann), Lewald (77th Kraulich), Ehlers, Meier (61st Park) – Will, Hauptmann (77th Menzel), Zimmerschied (46th L. Herrmann) – Borkowski (61st Oehmichen), Kutschke (46th Schäffler), Meißner (61st Vlachodimos)
