Zverev without any effort to third round in New York

It was a long haul for Alexander Zverev, home quickly in the second round of the US Open. The German (placed fourth) spent an hour and a quarter on the court against Spaniard Alberto Ramos, whom he awarded only four games: 6-1, 6-0, 6-3.

Zverev and Ramos had met once before; at a challenger in Barranquilla, Colombia, more than seven years ago. The then 26-year-old Spaniard then allowed the then 17-year-old Zverev one game (6-1, 6-0).

Ramos was in ten ATP finals, nine of which were on clay. He won three. He never made it past the second round in ten appearances at the US Open. The chance of that was now also small against the losing finalist of 2020.
