Tennis Olympic champion Alexander Zverev is still hoping to start at the US Open in just over two months after his serious foot injury and an operation.

“But I won’t be one who plays immediately if he’s ready for it the first second. If I play the US Open, it’s not for one or two rounds, but to win it,” said the 25-year-old to “Bild On Sunday”. “I’ll only come back when I’m in this form. I don’t know if it will be the US Open because I have to play one or two tournaments before that. But I haven’t checked off New York yet.”
Zverev twisted his right foot in the semifinals in Paris a good two weeks ago and tore all three lateral ligaments in his right ankle. Then he had an operation. Zverev will have to do without the lawn classic in Wimbledon in just over a week. The US Open in New York, the last Grand Slam tournament of the year, begins on August 29th.
In two or three weeks, he will go to Klaus Eder, the former physiotherapist for the German national soccer team, for rehabilitation, said the second in the world rankings. “There are specialists there who make sure that I can play again as soon as possible.”
Zverev is currently wearing a cast and splints. “But I try to keep my upper body fit,” he said. “Right now I have to do everything sitting down. Otherwise I’ll go crazy if I don’t do anything for too long.”
