Zurich Opera House: Artistic Director Homoki to go in 2025

Zurich / Berlin (MH) – The director of the Zurich Opera, Andreas Homoki, is leaving the house in 2025. Homoki has decided to end his term of office after 13 years, the board of directors of Opernhaus AG announced on Tuesday in Zurich. A selection committee is to present a new director by the end of this year.

The deputy general manager and commercial director, Christian Berner, will switch to the board of directors from the 2023/24 season. His successor will then be the current Deputy Commercial Director Marc Meyer (44).

A change in directorship is a challenge for every company, said Chairman of the Board of Directors Markus Notter. “The appointment of Christian Berner as delegate of the board of directors is an excellent support in order to be able to prepare and carry out this transition phase well.” With Meyer’s appointment as commercial director, the board of directors guarantees a reliable and continuous management structure.

Ballet director Christian Spuck will go to Berlin in 2023, where he was appointed artistic director of the State Ballet. He was followed in Zurich by Cathy Marston, a native of Britain with a Swiss passport.

In March, the Zurich Opera House presented a new opera director, Annette Weber. Born in Karlsruhe, she will succeed Michael Fichtenholz from the 2021/22 season, who will leave the house early in the summer.
