The Zurich team easily overcomes the first European Cup hurdle
After the 3-0 victory in the first leg, FC Zurich left nothing to chance in Dublin. They played 0-0 against Shelbourne and moved into the next qualifying round of the Conference League.
With a clear lead behind them, FCZ were able to approach the away game in Ireland relatively calmly. During the game, it quickly became clear that there was little to fear from the leaders of the Irish championship, in which 24 rounds have already been played. Coach Damien Duff’s team only sporadically entered the Zurich penalty area and mostly remained harmless there.
The guests from Switzerland, who had made only one change to the starting eleven compared to the first leg, did not do more than was necessary. Offensive actions were also in short supply for coach Ricardo Moniz’s team. Mariano Gómez came closest to scoring in the 73rd minute when he deflected the ball onto the post following a corner.
In the end, the 0-0 result was the logical one, with which the Zurich team easily overcame the first hurdle in their European Cup campaign. In the next round, FCZ will face Vitoria Guimarães. The first leg will take place on Thursday, August 8, in Letzigrund, and the second leg a week later in Portugal.
