After the change of coach, the Young Boys celebrated their first home win of the season in the Super League. The champions won against Lucerne 2-1. The previous leader was replaced by FC Zurich, who beat GC 2-1.

Grasshoppers – Zurich 1:2

The FCZ cemented the strength of the Zurich pitch with a 2-1 win in the derby against GC. Two long-range goals in the first half were enough for the favored city club to win. Lindrit Kamberi with his weaker left foot (32′) and Antonio Marchesano (38′) scored from distance within six minutes. Both times the defenders were too far away, and goalie Justin Hammel didn’t look particularly good when the second goal was conceded.

The 286th derby – the first in eight months – ended exactly according to script; with a one-goal difference as always in the last five times and with an FCZ win like in five of the last six editions.

In the end, the favorite also had to rely on a bit of luck. Awer Mabil, who came on after an hour, reduced the score to 1:2 after just one minute, after which GC pushed for an equalizer, but without any tangible result.

“We conceded goals unnecessarily because of our own mistakes,” said GC captain Amir Abrashi angrily on “Blue”. “We kept trying and scored, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough in the end.”

FC Zurich only has one defeat this season and is the new leader of the Super League at least until Sunday. GC, on the other hand, has to look backwards after its second defeat in a row against a cantonal rival and is now second from bottom.

YB – Lucerne 2:1

Three minutes shortly after the break were enough for YB to break free. Joël Monteiro in the 47th minute and Cedric Itten in the 50th minute acted more energetically in front of the Lucerne goal and scored with powerful shots. Although the champions didn’t manage to keep a clean sheet in the tenth game of the season, the two goals were enough to secure their first home win.

This meant that the new beginning was optimal after the release of head coach Patrick Framework and the return of interim coach Joël Magnin, who had already successfully stepped in in the spring. Not all that glitters is suddenly gold, but as bottom of the table, the only thing that counts for YB at the moment is the result.

The Bernese earned their second complete success of the current championship after a win in Winterthur thanks to a strong first half in which they took the game and pushed FC Luzern, who had arrived as leaders, on the defensive. Magnin had promoted six new players to the starting line-up compared to the defeat before the national team break in Basel, and one of them, Itten, prepared the 1-0 with a header and made it 2-0.

Nevertheless, the victory was still in danger in the final half hour. Luca Jaquez took advantage of the fourth good chance within a few minutes to score and after a slow phase, Lars Villiger missed two excellent chances to equalize. So it remained in the sold-out Wankdorf with the second defeat of the season – the first away from Lucerne. Bern remains a tough place for coach Mario Frick’s team.

Servette – Sion 3:0

Servette wins 3-0 against a shockingly harmless Sion and can move forward. One early goal in each half was enough for an easy victory.

The ultras from Valais boycotted the Rhône derby, their Geneva colleagues showed solidarity for half time. Neither of them missed much, the FC Sion fans can even consider themselves lucky not to have seen their favorites’ pale performance live.

Enzo Crivelli gave Servette the lead in the 5th minute; given the now worrying harmlessness of the Valais offensive department, it was already half the battle. In the last six games, Sion has only scored three meager goals.

Four minutes after the break, Dereck Kutesa, who had been annoyed in the media in recent days that he was not called up for the national team by Murat Yakin, increased the score. He now leads the top scorers list with six goals this season.
