52 cases were initiated against cyclists when several dozen celebrated the Critical Mass on July 28, even though this would have required a permit for the first time. These 52 cycling women and men had been stopped by the police and reported for taking part in an unauthorized demonstration.
There were fears of fines of up to 500 francs, perhaps even charges of coercion in traffic. Crowdfunding for those fined has already been organized on Telegram.

Now things are less intense. The fines are mostly 100 francs, as the NZZ reports. The fines are higher for individual criminals. For everyone, however, there are also the city judge’s office’s writing fees of 150 francs. The total bill comes to 250 francs.
Governor: It is a political demonstration
The Zurich governor Mathis Kläntschi (Greens) had previously assessed the Critical Mass as a political demonstration that required approval. In the months and years before that, depending on the weather, thousands of cyclists rode seemingly aimlessly through the city on the last Friday of each month, bringing car and bus traffic to a complete standstill.
The governor has now put a stop to the movement. At the end of August there were only a few people left and there were five notices and eleven fines.
