Zurich Cantonal Police has new head of security police

Werner Schmid (57) joined the cantonal police corps in 1992 and was promoted to chief of service in 2012. In 2014, he was promoted to officer and took over the management of the Winterthur/Weinland regional department. Werner Schmid has been chief of the regional police since March 1, 2019 and is therefore also a member of the cantonal police management.

Responsible for special care in the area of ​​​​hazard prevention

Government Councillor Mario Fehr congratulates the new head of the security police: “Werner Schmid is an extremely experienced police officer with excellent networks in the canton. He guarantees continuity at the head of this important main department.” The security police are particularly responsible for special care in the area of ​​threat prevention.

This includes interventions by special units, personal protection tasks, operations in the unpeaceful security service, general surveillance and security tasks as well as ensuring command support within the framework of the Cantonal Command Organisation (KFO).

Werner Schmid succeeds Andreas Moschin as head of the security police, who will take over the leadership of the airport police of the Zurich cantonal police on 1 February 2025.
