Zurich Airport: Pickpockets identified and arrested

On Saturday (July 6, 2024), three tourists bought their train tickets at the airport station and then made their way to the platforms. Unnoticed, two other women stood behind the tourists on the escalator. They opened their backpack and stole a wallet from it. A short time later, the women noticed the loss and reported it to the police, giving a description.

Around a month later, on Friday morning, investigators from the Zurich Cantonal Police noticed two women who matched the description of the pickpockets from July 6. When they checked the 24-year-old Bosnian woman and the 20-year-old Croatian woman, the police confiscated a suspected stolen bum bag.

The investigations that were immediately launched led to a Chinese tourist who was travelling from Zurich to Asia on the same day. Shortly before boarding, the cantonal police were able to hand the bum bag over to the victim at the gate.

The two pickpockets were arrested, questioned by the police and then referred to the public prosecutor’s office for multiple pickpocketing offenses.
