Zurich Airport significantly increased its revenue and profits in the first half of 2024. The airport operator is increasing its forecasts for the full year and is now expecting passenger volumes of 31 million.

Sales rose by 9 percent to 631 million francs in the first half of the year thanks to the increase in passenger numbers, Zurich Airport announced on Tuesday. The flight sector increased by 13 percent to 314 million. Sales from the non-flight sector, which includes income from real estate and international business in particular, rose by 7 percent to 285 million.

At the EBITDA level, operating profit climbed by 7 percent to 347 million francs. The bottom line was a net profit of 152 million francs, compared to 138 million in the same period last year. The figures, particularly in terms of profitability, were therefore slightly lower than analysts had previously expected.

Passenger forecast increased

The airport operator is now more confident about the current year. Passenger numbers are now expected to rise to 31 million. Previously, the company had expected 30 million. As already known, 14.5 million passengers traveled through Zurich Airport in the first half of the year, which corresponds to 97 percent of the 2019 level.

An increase in earnings is also expected for 2024. Despite increased operating costs, the group profit is expected to be higher than in the previous year. Overall, the company plans to invest around 650 to 700 million francs in 2024, of which 350 million will go into international business.
