For the first time, Zurich Airport reported monthly results above the year before the pandemic. In the last few months, Zurich Airport has gradually approached the level of the record year 2019 and was at 99.5 percent of the previous level in August 2024. Now the airport has exceeded the number of passengers.
Compared to September 2019, the number of passengers in the reporting month is 102%. At the same time, the number of flight movements was below the 2019 level with 23,778 take-offs and landings. While flight movements decreased compared to before Corona, the number of passengers increased. The reason for this is that, on the one hand, larger aircraft are used and, on the other hand, the aircraft are better utilized.
The number of flight movements rose by 2% compared to the same month last year to 23,778 take-offs or landings. The monthly comparison shows that flight movements are 98% of the 2019 level. The average number of passengers per flight was 141, around 1% higher than the previous year. Seat occupancy increased by 1 percentage point to 84% in the reporting month compared to the same month last year.
A total of 35,457 tons of freight were handled at Zurich Airport in September. This corresponds to an increase of 16% compared to the same month last year. Compared to September 2019, 3% less freight was handled.
