Zurich Airport Hires 200 New Employees to Reduce Waiting Times

The cantonal police have hired 200 new employees for security checks at Zurich Airport. This allows the ZRH to reduce waiting times.

This spring there were exceptionally long waiting times at Zurich Airport. As a result, certain travelers had to queue for up to two hours, which the ZRH justified with a lack of staff at the Zurich cantonal police. Around 200 new employees have now been hired for the security check – partly because of a relaxation of the rules on recruitment, according to the daytimeshowr.

Average wait time reduced

The most intensive travel time for Swiss people is approaching: the summer holidays. Some people still have a great deal of wanderlust, which is not being curbed by inflation. In view of this, the cantonal police at Zurich Airport hired around 200 new people for the security check so that the processes can work more smoothly and quickly. In addition, the airport generally employed more people. With these measures, Zurich Airport wants to make up for the quality losses caused by long waiting times this spring. While waiting times at security checkpoints averaged 17 minutes in April, they were around 13 minutes in May and just ten minutes in June.

The reason for the longer waiting times in March and April at Switzerland’s largest airport was the tense situation on the labor market. This was helped by the change that senior citizens and people without a Swiss passport can now also be employed. As a result, the cantonal police received more applications and was ultimately able to hire more people. The relevant training is currently in progress.

Conclusion on hiring new employees at Zurich Airport

The summer holidays will start in a few weeks and many Swiss travelers will be leaving Zurich Airport. In order to avoid further long waiting times, the cantonal police has hired around 200 new employees for the security checks. We are curious to see how the intense summer months will unfold at Switzerland’s largest airport and whether there will be congestion this year due to early passengers.
