Whether you want to take fondue with your family or are traveling with an XXL gift: Zurich Airport offers five tips on how to travel stress-free over the busy holidays.

Are you traveling through Zurich Airport before or during the holidays to visit family abroad or go on vacation? Then remember: the airport is expecting more passengers than usual over Christmas and New Year.
The peak day is expected to be December 22nd – with an expected number of travelers of around 90,000 passengers. Zurich Airport provides useful tips so that you can travel relaxed despite the hustle and bustle.
“The better prepared the passengers come to the airport, the faster our staff can progress,” explains media spokeswoman Bettina Kunz. This includes: “Checking in online, packing the liquids in hand luggage and checking the baggage rules – travelers can do this well in advance at home.”
1. Check in online or the evening before
Do you want to take your skis with you, are you bringing an XXL gift to the Christmas party or are you planning to entertain your family with music? Then it’s worth contacting us in advance respective airline about specifications regarding bulky luggage. Zurich Airport also recommends using the evening check-in or online check-in where possible.
2. Check in your luggage yourself

3. Find out what doesn’t belong in your (hand) luggage
Can I take fondue and fireworks with me and, if so, in checked or hand luggage? The answer in advance: You can take the cheese mixture with you in both cases (actually!), but you have to leave the fireworks at home. You should definitely clarify these and other questions in advance so that you can pack accordingly and avoid traffic jams at the airport counters.

The biggest mistake you can make? “If passengers mistakenly leave liquids, large electronic devices or even prohibited or dangerous items in their hand luggage, this can result in an additional check at security,” explains Kunz. This costs time and could potentially extend the waiting times of subsequent passengers.
4. Check what time you should arrive at the airport
Not new, but all the more important over the busy holidays: “We advise passengers to arrive at Zurich Airport early enough,” says Bettina Kunz. “It also takes away the stress or fear of missing your own flight.”

If you are unsure what time you should arrive, you can check online “Find flight” function to use. There you enter your flight, indicate whether you already have a boarding pass and what luggage you are traveling with. You will then be shown the recommended arrival time.
