The property at Kirchplatz 6, «Zur Brücken Waage», is classified as «valuable» in the building reference inventory of the Office for the Preservation of Monuments. It is described as a “multi-purpose building, overall appearance 19th century, core probably 17th/18th Jh.». The building is said to have “high status in the village center of Sirnach”. This is also because of the location in the immediate vicinity of the church and the inns Löwen and Engel.
A study by the former Sirnach architect Hermann Schmidt shows the value and importance of the weighbridge property for the village center of Sirnach.

At the municipal assembly on May 30, 2012, the municipal council applied for the approval of a project planning loan for the planning procedure for the center development area “Zur Brücken Waage”. After approval by the municipal assembly, the results of the study were presented on November 27, 2013. The municipal assembly rejected the preservation and conversion of the property weighbridge and commissioned the municipal council to carry out a “non-protection procedure” and to pursue the variant of a replacement building and square. The solution should have been presented to a later community meeting. At the same meeting, those entitled to vote decided: “Should an appeal be made against a decree issued by the municipal council regarding the non-protection and the appeal should be protected by a higher authority, the municipal council has the task of initiating planning for the preservation and conversion of the weighbridge property and to prepare the corresponding applications to those entitled to vote.”
The property at Kirchplatz 6 was therefore not included in the protection plan for cultural objects when the municipal usage plan was revised. With a decision of July 16, 2019, however, the Department of Building and Environment refused approval of the non-protection and instructed the political municipality of Sirnach to place the “Zur Brücken Waage” property under protection. After the situation had been weighed up by a lawyer, the municipal council decided not to challenge the department’s decision.
The protected position of the house “Zur Brücken Waage” must be differentiated. Not all building parts have the same value. For this reason, the municipal council decided to commission an appraisal of the house by lawyer Markus Joos. From the appraisal of all existing documents, in particular the building history report by Dr. phil. Friederike Mehlau Wiebking of February 7th, 2013, the municipal council passed the following resolution:
The residential part of the building at Kirchplatz 6 «Zur Brücken Waage», in particular its core with the plank frame building, is an object worth preserving and is being protected. A demolition ban is imposed with reference to this component. In particular, the constructive structure of the plank stand construction with the still existing plank walls, the south-east facade and the supporting structure with the resulting floor plan position are to be preserved.
The municipal council will have to deal with the next steps. An expert opinion will certainly be prepared in advance of a renovation or planned structural measures. In accordance with the resolution of the municipal assembly of November 27, 2013, the municipal council will take the next steps accordingly and present them to those entitled to vote after the property has been placed under protection.
