ZUNDERT – The annual match between the Zundertse Selectie and NAC may have been cancelled this year, but a fun alternative has been conjured up with a match between the Zundertse Selectie Women and NAC Women. The duel will be played on Tuesday 13 August at 19:00 at sports park De Wildert, home of VV Zundert,

The match between the Zundertse Selectie and NAC, traditionally part of the training campaign of the Breda professional football club in the run-up to the new season, was cancelled this year due to the necessary renovation of the main field of VV Zundert. However, this did mean that it was extremely uncertain whether the A-field would be ready for the match between the Zundertse Selectie and NAC at the beginning of July. The risk was considered too great to plan that duel around that time. That is why it was decided in consultation with NAC to cancel the match this year. However, after this, the idea came up for an alternative: a match between the deaf NAC Women and a Zundertse Selectie Women, consisting of players from VV Zundert, Moerse Boys, VVR, VV Wernhout, VV Achtmaal and VV Schijf.

NAC Women

Officially introduced in March, NAC Women is a new addition to the Breda football club. Interest in football is on the rise among women, and the need to play it themselves is also great. It is the fastest growing sport in the Netherlands. Reason enough for NAC to join in at this stage of development. Starting next season, NAC Women will join the Women’s First Division. The goal is promotion to the so-called Azerion Eredivisie.

Mission

This must be done under the leadership of Pia Rijsdijk, who has been appointed as manager of women’s football by NAC. The latter points to the promotion-relegation arrangement between the Azerion Eredivisie Women and the Women’s First Division that will be in effect next season. “A great development within women’s football,” she says. “A place in the Eredivisie Women will therefore only be possible on the basis of sporting grounds. A club must become overall champion in order to be promoted. As NAC Breda, we have the ambition to end up in the Eredivisie Women. All in good time, but in sports you go for the highest achievable. So that is what we are working towards.” Pia Rijsdijk herself was active as a player at various professional clubs in women’s football, such as ADO Den Haag, MSV Duisburg, SC Sand, Arna-Bjørnar, Napoli and Feyenoord. At NAC, she has now started a new challenge as manager of women’s football. “My mission is to offer footballing girls prospects so that they can develop themselves at a high level and pursue their dreams as a (professional) football player”

Women’s combination team

With the match against the Zundertse Selectie Vrouwen, NAC Women are now getting to know the region and – also quite special – a women’s combination team. The Zundert Women’s Selection will be featuring four players from VV Zundert (Eva Smits, Lotte Gommers, Nova Aerts and Isa Meeuwissen), four from Moerse Boys (Iefke Sannen, Lauri Halters, Mira van der Maas and Chanel Geerts), three from VV Achtmaal (Marieke Daems, Moya Leenaerts and Anna Wouters), two from VV Wernhout (Bregje Huijbregts and Lennie de Bruijn), two from VVR (Tessa Peeters and Eva Hoendervangers) and three from VV Schijf (Lotte Godrie, Fieke Jacobs and Milou Hendrickx). In the run-up to the match, this selection will have completed six training sessions. The selection will be led by the technical duo Frank Pinksteren and Martin van Erk. Tickets for the match on Tuesday 13 August are available at the box office and cost 5 euros. The box office will be open from 6:00 PM, the match will start at 7:00 p.m.
