Zuidas gets a weekly market: “Long-cherished wish of residents”

The South District is starting a trial with a weekly market on George Gershwinplein in the Zuidas. There will soon be thirty market stalls and sales trolleys every Thursday, mainly with foodstuffs.

According to the district, the market provides extra liveliness in the new district. “A market was also a long-cherished wish of residents.”

The organizer of the market, Marc Schoonebeek, appointed by the district, speaks of a social meeting place. “It will be a growth brilliant, a unique market where market traders with a proven reputation will stand. You really have to experience it.”

Sebastiaan Capel, chairman of the Zuid district council, is also enthusiastic. “We want a lively neighborhood and a weekly market contributes to this. It is a pilot, so I am curious about the experiences of the entrepreneurs, residents and visitors. And I will certainly take a look myself.”

The opening of the market is on Thursday September 2. The trial will run until March 2023.
