Zug refugee helpers want more support from the canton

“We could make full-time jobs out of it”: Zug volunteers are overrun – and want more support

They pay for the living expenses of Ukrainian refugees out of their own pockets, help them register, collect relief supplies and try to be there for them mentally as well: Volunteers from Zug help where they can. And feel let down by the canton.

The Ukrainian refugee Daniil W.* (right) can now lend a hand in the camp of the Facebook group “Central Switzerland helps Ukraine”.

It’s after eight o’clock in the evening when Simon’s phone rings. At the end of February, Unterägerer and five friends had the Facebook group “Central Switzerland helps Ukraine” founded, which collects relief supplies and transports them to the crisis area. It is now March 14th and Simon von Wyl receives a call from Zurich. A colleague is on the line. She calls from a receptionist near Zurich’s main train station, which Ukrainian refugees can turn to. You would find no shelter for Daniil W. *, says the colleague to Simon von Wyl. Did he know of a place in Zug?
