Zug government wants quick opening and more hardship aid

More hardship payments for Zug: The government council wants to increase the credit line for hardship aid from 81.1 million francs to 150 million francs. In addition, he calls for the “fastest possible opening” of the companies that are still closed and of public life.

Waiting to increase hardship payments until the existing loans have been raised is not an option for the government council, said Zug finance director Heinz Tännler (SVP) in a press release on Monday. The economy now needs financial support.

Since December last year, companies in Zug have been able to apply for hardship benefits. Parliament had approved framework credit of 81.1 million francs. The hardship program is currently the most important pillar alongside the short-time work compensation and the Corona compensation for the self-employed. It has proven itself.

In the meantime, the compassionate use program has been expanded several times and the measures extended. Because the federal government also intends to massively increase hardship support, the Zug government is now proposing to parliament to increase the credit line to 150 million francs. This should provide enough funds to support the hardship cases in the canton until the summer of 2021.

Heinz Tännler also assumes that not only the amount of support payments will change in the longer term, but also their type. He assumes that the proportion of non-repayable contributions will increase in relation to the repayable loans and will make up the majority of the financial aid paid out in the future should.

Zug calls for a change in strategy
The finance director also calls for the “fastest possible opening” of the companies that are still closed and of public life in compliance with the protection concepts that have been developed.

“After the attempt to eradicate the virus in the short term did not bring the desired success, we have to learn to live with the virus,” he is quoted in the message. Everyone needs new perspectives. (sda og)
