According to Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg (40), the US government around President Joe Biden has intervened in the company’s own media. Meta is said to have been put under pressure to censor content about Corona during the Covid pandemic. According to his statement, high-ranking US officials urged Zuckerberg’s teams to “censor certain content about the pandemic, including humor and satire.”

Corona: No criticism of measures desired

The Meta boss drafted a letter on this subject, which was published by the House Judiciary Committee. As the “Welt” newspaper reports, Facebook moderators are said to have deleted a number of critical posts about the Corona measures during the pandemic.

Zuckerberg stressed that the removal of content was a company decision that the company stands by. He criticised the government’s alleged pressure. The 40-year-old admitted that decisions were made that would not be made today.

Zuckerberg does not want content to become dependent on the government

“I firmly believe that we should not compromise our content standards because of government pressure in one direction or the other. And we stand ready to fight back if something like this happens again,” Zuckerberg wrote. The White House said the government had “encouraged responsible action to protect public health in the face of a deadly pandemic.”
