Another feature of the metaverse concept is that your avatar could travel anywhere on the internet. So you do not need to create a new one when you move from Facebook to Microsoft or Fortnite.
Facebook wants to make money on digital clothing
If a kind of internet becomes a reality, a new economy will emerge at the same time.
Today, Facebook earns virtually all of its billions on advertising. But that’s not what Mark Zuckerberg thinks will be the biggest source of income in a future metaverse.
The Facebook founder, on the other hand, believes that digital goods will be “huge” and mentions, among other things, digital clothes, which you buy for your avatar, as an example. But it could just as easily be a digital Porsche.
Because in metaverse, users are digital representatives of themselves. And whether you go to work, to the gym or to a party in the digital metaverse world, people will want to show who they are – just like in the physical world.
Will it become a reality?
The big question, of course, is whether metaverse will become a reality at all?
The future is seldom what we imagine and it is far from certain that Mark Zuckerberg’s or Microsoft’s vision of a three – dimensional internet will be realized.
But I do not think there is much doubt that an increasing mix of the digital and physical worlds is the title of the next digital age.
However, it still requires a technical breakthrough, before digital glasses become so good and cheap enough for the masses to buy them – and light and simple enough to be comfortable to wear for several hours at a time.
So take it easy and wait to sell your house to permanently move into metaverse. Neither Virtual Reality, driverless cars, nor genuine artificial intelligence have become any major revolutions that must have been predicted by the world’s digital priests.
