During the training sessions, too, the number of units was increased from four to eight. «A quantum leap. The boys in particular will benefit, ”says GC striker Caroline Müller.

Until the corona-related abandonment of the 2019/20 championship, the GC soccer players are pure amateurs. Center forward Caroline Müller (31), who was able to live from playing football for a season as a professional at UD Levante in Spain as a teenager, gets up at 5 a.m. in the Zurich-Schwamendingen working-class district because of her hobby during the week. «I’m at work at six o’clock. I am already free at three in the afternoon. I am glad my employer Globus is so accommodating. »

Double the number of training sessions for women
GC has so far offered its women four training courses. Now it should be eight (!) A week. “A quantum leap,” says Caroline Müller, “especially the young will benefit.”
–
The female amateurs are supposed to become semi-professionals at GC. In the morning they devote themselves to studying or working, in the afternoon to football. In the near future, they are expected to collect fixed wages and success bonuses. The budget for the first season: CHF 500,000. Later it’s supposed to be 1 million. So far there were only bread seeds for the players: 50 francs per point.

GC icon Erich Vogel is behind the spirit of optimism. The former player, coach, sports director and vice president has developed a twelve-page concept.
–
Under “Sporting goal” there is in Chapter 3: “Best women’s football team in Switzerland, champions, cup winners, qualification for the Champions League.”
–
Bernard Schuiteman, the new Dutch sports director for men, says: “It is simply great that the GC section of the women is trying to build professional structures. I wish you a great season. »
–
With Ricardo Cabanas, the father of the former Nati star of the same name, and Adrian Iglesias, two full-time professional trainers are now available to the women.
Ex-GC and Nati goalie Pascal Zuberbüher, who is responsible for the goalkeeper coach training at Fifa and coach of the Fifa United women’s team, will lead the goalie training sessions for the GC women. Ricci Cabanas (42), 51 times international, who has just obtained his teaching diploma for secondary school, will also be involved.–
How is that financed?
The semi-professional model is financed, among other things, by the two sponsoring clubs Blue Label and White Label, both founded by Vogels companion Heinz Spross (72), the former sponsor of the male GC footballers. The latest member of the white label: Uli Forte, coach of the record champion, who was fired in the spring and is now kicking in the Challenge League.
–
Remarkable about the new vision: The GC women should not only play successfully, but also female! “We leave the staging as pop stars to the men,” says the new strategy paper. Or: “Dropping theatrically to kick out a free kick is outlawed. Fake injuries to influence the referee are not part of our repertoire. Constant complaints about referee decisions are not tolerated. »

President becomes an old acquaintance: Evelyne Wirz, from 1991 to 1999 under trainers like Ottmar Hitzfeld or Christian Gross physiotherapist at GC. The prospective managing director of a therapy and rehabilitation center in Uster ZH, who previously played with SV Seebach, FC Bad Ragaz (“with downhill Olympic champion Maite Nadig”) or Fiammamonza in Italy, says: “Erich Vogel and Heinz I have known scion for a long time: the two are a guarantee that the whole thing has a hand. I wanted to give something back to women’s football for a long time. »
–
Zubi is fascinated by women’s football
Pascal Zuberbühler, the only goalkeeper without a clean sheet at the 2006 World Cup in Germany, says: «At the Women’s World Cup in France, I was fascinated by the overall atmosphere. Before and after the games, a huge party was held among the spectators of both camps. It’s great that the GC women are now pushing the gas. I will certainly lead one or the other goalie training. »
–
Final question: What does Erich Vogel’s engagement mean for the GC women? Is he leaving office with the men as an eternal string puller now?
–
Vogel: “I don’t need my support from men. With the Dutchman Bernard Schuiteman, an absolute top personality is now working as the sports director. The only problem: GC has to be careful that Schuiteman doesn’t end up in a big club soon. »
