ZTE will unveil Axon 20 5G smartphone with front camera behind screen in early September – Tablets and phones – News

ZTE will release the Axon 20 5G in China on September 1. In their own words, this will be the first smartphone where the front camera is placed behind the screen, instead of using notches, folding modules or holes in the screen.

ZTE says that the Axon 20 5G is the world’s first mass-produced 5G phone with a camera placed behind the screen. The company calls this a new milestone in its pursuit of a smartphone that consists entirely of a screen at the front. Recently said ZTE CEO Ni Fei is already on Weibo that his company will be the first to release a smartphone with a front camera behind the screen.

The Chinese manufacturer does not provide further details about the smartphone or the technology used for the front camera solution, although it is believed that ZTE uses technology from another Chinese company, namely Visionox. This company began mass production in June of OLED screens with a front camera behind the display.

Other manufacturers have previously shown a prototype of a smartphone with a front camera behind the screen, such as Oppo in Xiaomi. Manufacturers have been working for a number of years to placing camera sensors behind the screen, avoiding solutions such as notches, sliding camera modules and the currently common hole in the screen.

It is obvious that the front camera in the Axon 20 5G smartphone is relatively inferior in quality than comparable sensors that are not placed behind the screen. This is due to the fact that the screen is not completely transparent, which means that less light can be collected.
