Zsolt Árpád Mészáros about his resignation: “I’m not a Pökhendi person, but I’m telling the truth”

In March, the news broke that another actor was leaving the Budapest Operetta Theatre. In recent months, we have heard about the firing of Péter Sándor, and at the time many people thought that there might be problems with the actor. However, last December, the conductor of the theater, László Maklári, was fired in the same way, after 40 years of loyal service. They were followed by Máté Miklós Kerényi, who decided on his own to leave the Operetta after 30 years. Likewise Zsolt Árpád Mészáros also announced his departure.

The actor is leaving the theater after 23 years, making this decision was obviously not easy for him either. As the For Best magazine he mentioned, despite trying to talk to the management about the problems, he literally ran into closed doors.

He didn’t accept me until March, which I thought was quite humiliating. I have been a member of the theater for 23 years, my name has merged with the musical genre, and I still have a lot of fans. When I posted a video of me putting my son to sleep, it was viewed by a million and a half. None of the theater’s posts have had similar views in recent times. Yet the management did not listen. But I didn’t mean to offend anyone, and I apologize if anyone felt that I was attacking them personally. I’m not a pushy person, but I’m telling the truth. I think that if we go into a store, we can say that it stinks, and I think the same should be done about things in the theater. This does not make me an enemy of the institution, in fact. I will also honestly say that I was a bad person, I had problems. I’m not running away from myself” – said MÁZS.

The actor emphasized that the theater has also affected his personal life in the recent period.

I hardly had any work. At home, too, I became an uncomfortable, curmudgeonly father who grumbles about who put what where. I didn’t have much to do. I didn’t want to declare war on the management of the theater at any time, I just couldn’t watch idly as the roles that I should be playing right now pass me by. After my announcement, several well-meaning heads of institutions contacted me and assured me that they would stand by me even if it was possible, this time I put it quite harshly. They reassured me that they would help.
