On Sunday after the 1-0 win against Lausanne, it was ZSC coach Rikard Grönborg who shot from all cylinders. He attacked trainer John Fust and not only called for ten game bans against Lausanne’s repeat offender Mark Barberio, but also said that the Canadian “hardly can ice skate” and is “overweight”.

Now the Zurich team have stepped up against Barberio. With a video with dramatic music (see above) that not only shows the Lausanne captain’s most recent act with the evil cross check against Garrett Roe’s head (broken jaw), but also three other fouls by Barberio from the playoff series last spring . With the following description:
–
- April 17, 2021, Game 3 in the playoff quarter-finals: Two-handed stick strike by Mark Barberio against the neck / head of Garrett Roe. The referees went unpunished during the game and were not sanctioned afterwards.
- April 19, 2021, Game 4 in the playoff quarter-finals: Mark Barberio with stick trick against Sven Andrighetto.
- April 19, 2021, Game 4 in the playoff quarter-finals: Mark Barberio with the gang check from behind against Sven Andrighetto.
- 21 November 2021, qualifying game: Cross check by Mark Barberio against the head of Garrett Roe. Penalized by the referees with 2 minutes during the game. Ordinary proceedings were opened on Monday.
–
The first thing that catches the eye is Barberio’s first act, when he hit the neck with a horror stick on April 17th. A clear assault. Back then, the people of Zurich noticed them too late and could no longer send in the incriminating video in time.
–
“Only with luck no serious injury”
“The broken jaw of the ZSC Lions player Garrett Roe is the most serious injury of these incidents so far, with the unpunished two-handed player off the game of Mark Barberio against Garrett Roe from April 2021 only with luck not causing a serious injury,” write the Lions in von CEO Peter Zahner signed a statement entitled “Respect – the greatest good in ice hockey”.
–
“Actions with willful and disrespectful behavior against other players are clearly to be punished,” write the Lions. “Actions of this kind have no place in Swiss ice hockey. Players who fail to adhere to the core values of respect and health should ask themselves serious questions. To apologize after every incident but learn nothing from it is pointless and worthless. Ice hockey players are also role models that you want to imitate. “
