Zoom Brings End-to-End Encryption to Zoom Phone Service

news-desc">

Zoom says users will have a new option to upgrade to end-to-end encryption during Zoom Phone calls between users on the same Zoom account. “We are excited to extend this end-to-end encryption feature to Zoom Phone and coming soon Breakout Rooms. Two more ways you can use Zoom to achieve seamless and secure communication,” the company said in a blog post Business StandardMonday (25/7/2022).

During a call, the user can select the “More” option and view it to upgrade the session to an end-to-end encrypted phone call. The upgrade takes a few seconds and helps add an extra layer of privacy to phone calls that occur via Zoom.

When enabled, end-to-end encryption ensures that calls are encrypted using a cryptographic key known only to the calling and receiving device. In addition, users can verify E2EE status by providing unique security codes to each other.

To upgrade Zoom Phone calls to end-to-end encrypted, the user must have a few things first, such as the account admin must enable E2EE through the web portal, the caller must be the same Zoom account.

They can only make one-to-one phone calls. In addition, both callers must use the Zoom Phone desktop or mobile client and both callers must disable automatic call recording.

For Group Workspaces, this will be the same experience as a standard end-to-end encrypted meeting, except each group workspace gets its own unique meeting encryption key.
