CALIFORNIA – Zoom announced that it has acquired Kites (Karlsruhe Information Technology Solutions), an artificial intelligence (AI) company engaged in real-time language translation and transcription.
Zoom says the acquisition is a move to help users communicate with people who speak different languages more easily.

The company also wants to add translation capabilities to its video conferencing app.
Kites itself comes from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, the technology was originally developed as an in-class translation for students who need help understanding English or German taught by their professors, as quoted from The Verge, Wednesday (30/6/2021).
Currently Zoom itself already has a real-time language translation feature. But unfortunately, it only supports English.
Even Zoom admits that the real-time translation feature is not very accurate.
