The Valencian group ZOO ends its musical career with a final ten-date tour – a concert for each year of the band’s life – that will take them in the last stop to the place where it all began for them, in Gandia, specifically in the Pirate Beach Festival.
After releasing three studio albums, an EP and two live albums, performances at the Wizink Center in Madrid or the Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona before more than 20,000 people and tours throughout the State, in addition to performing in countries like France, Poland, Japan, Germany, Hungary, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Belgium and Palestine, ZOO is preparing a small farewell tour that starts in March.
The band has also shared a farewell video with the song “Adéu”, starring a monet, one of the symbols that has accompanied the group, which comes to life and disappears into the forest.
In 2014, the release of “Estiu” reached unexpected heights for a newborn project. On the other side, there was an audience willing to pay attention to a proposal like his, contemporary popular music sung in Valencia. Toni Sánchez, ‘Panxo’, singer of the group, explained in an interview in El Salto in 2107 that theirs was not something of enlightened people but was part of a “small explosion of groups, especially in the Valencian Country” that shared the language in which they expressed themselves. It was not a flash in the pan, it was “a very horizontal grassroots movement. Many nights of concerts in Valencian. Everything that happened during 20 years led to the creation, in a fairly healthy way, of what is now being collected with all these music bands.”
‘Panxo’ referred to the lyrics of their songs, perhaps the most striking thing about ZOO, in which “we defend our culture, but because there is a situation of permanent contempt. “Protest” sounds very typical to me, but there is pride in País Valencià and a defense of our cultural values.”
The singer also mentioned some of his references—Joaquín Sabina and Solo los Solo—and marked distances with others: “I haven’t listened to Raimon that much and I love 7 Notas 7 Colores at the level of style and sound, but at the level of speech I don’t. They motivate me so much. The Bakalao Route has not influenced me. I think it is very mythologized by people who did not live it.”
