The Czech hockey players won the A-group match at the Beijing Olympics over the Russian Olympic Committee team 6: 5 after extra time. The winner was finally decided by the defender Libor Šulák in a power play. Despite losing, the ROC players took 1st place in the A-group and advanced to the quarterfinals. Chekhov awaits the eight-final match.

The Russian players had a better start to the match, which was also helped by a power play in the 2nd minute. The Czechs defended themselves in it, but their goalkeeper Hrubec capitulated in the 5th minute after Tkačov’s shot – 1: 0. The collected team started the Czech team for more activity and in the 7th minute they were close to the goal. However, the Fedotov goalkeeper kept the tournament’s bulletproofness even after Krejčí’s chance, who thwarted the intervention with an effective catch. In the 12th minute, the Czechs got to the first power play, in which Kundrátek benefited from Kovář’s screening and overcame Fedotov – 1: 1.
The Czech goalkeeper Hrubec held Grigorenka’s chance after 28 minutes, but in the 33rd minute the ROC players took the lead. In an almost one-minute power play by two players, they created pressure, which resulted in an accurate shot by the defender Nesterov – 2: 1. However, the end of the second part belonged to the Czechs. Russian striker Voronkov received a penalty of 5 minutes and by the end of the match and the Czechs scored two goals from a long power play. After Červenka’s pass, Krejčí immediately equalized (2: 2) and Fedotov was not even enough for a Špačka shot – 2: 3.

From the 44th minute, the situation was already 2: 4, when Klok took advantage of Fedotov’s hidden view. But then came a successful section of the Russian team. After the race in front of Hrubec, Semjonov was ideally oriented and reduced to 3: 4. In the 47th Gricjuk took advantage of the misunderstanding of the Czech defenders and equalized to 4: 4. Two minutes later, the Russians were leading 5: 4, when after a series of goal opportunities, Chibis surprised Hrubec. Hyka finished the game’s rich goal, which caught the goalkeeper Fedotova from a sharp angle – 5: 5. By the end of the third period, the teams paid more attention to the defense and the chances lost decreased.
The Czechs got into overtime in overtime, in which they beat the opponent for a long time. Shortly before the return of the eliminated Nikišin, the defender Šulák got to the shot and decided on the victory of the Czech Republic.
