Znojmo Eagles Win 3-2 Against Pardubice – Full Match Summary and Coach Testimonials

The Eagles won another valuable three-point victory against Pardubice. It was a tight match. Right at the start, the home team took a quick two-goal lead, thanks to goals from Matuš and Svoboda. In the next part of the match, however, Dynamo was more active and managed to reduce. Fortunately, the South Moravians increased the score by another goal. Until the end, the winner of this duel was not 100% sure, because Pardubice lost for the second time and the game was even. Fortunately, the local hockey players were able to overcome these factors and have another important success to their credit.

The January hockey evening in the city of Znojmo, where the Pardubice hockey players visited to challenge the home team, started better for the Eagles. Martin Šťovíček got a shot right after the ball was won. But it didn’t take long and Znojmo was already in the lead. Radim Matus he guided the puck from the right side and sent it between the concrete of the goalkeeper Vomáčka. The puck ended up behind the goal line and the joy of the home fans came right from the start. Subsequently, the guests wanted to react to the goal, but the goalkeeper Groh did not let any of the sent shots go behind his back. The game also started to become more intense, which was eventually taken away by Berger and Chabada from Pardubice in a similar two-minute penalty. Hockey in four players on the ice satisfied Znojm and brought an increase in the score. Jenyš did a great job behind the goal when he found a completely free man Freedom. The Znojmo captain then didn’t have the slightest problem with the finish and sent the disc to the upper left post of the Pardubice sanctuary. As soon as one expulsion for the “gingerbread man” ended, another one happened. He reluctantly committed a foul by shooting the puck out of bounds, sending his team back to four. The fact that Znojmo powerhouses are far from being among the worst was shown even at this moment. The trio of Svoboda – Matuš and the finisher Šťovíčk succeeded in a one-touch interplay, unfortunately the action did not have the final form of a goal. In the further course of the game, it became more and more intense. Two more dismissals followed on both sides. David Štich deserved the applause of the home fans for his emphatic hit, which sent Hrníček to the bar. At the end of the third, Pardubice also threatened. Chabady Groh’s attempt went off, but Dominik Hrníčko was the first to get to the puck, and fortunately the Znojmo goalkeeper moved in time and the score did not change. In the last minute, the Eagles goalkeeper was still worried about Kaplan’s shot, but even in this attempt, he remained 100% and maintained the home team’s lead.

The second period began with an exclusion on the part of the guests, but the weakening was surprisingly in favor of the Pardubice B team. So far, he has overcome a certain Groh with a quick finishing action Dominik Hrníčko. In the following minutes, Pardubice continued to press and were ahead on the ice in most cases. For example, Pochobradský was close to equalizing, but he didn’t get to the shot because defender Bartko was able to stop it. The first opportunity of the third period was reached by the home team only in the 27th minute. Čermák offered Adámek an interesting chance with his pass, but Vomáčka was able to deflect the puck with concrete in time. Although the guests continued to shell the goal of Znojmo, it was Orli who increased the score of the match. Lichanec found the recording Peter Beránek, who stood between the rings and sent a shot at the goalkeeper Vomáčka. The puck ended up between the concrete of the Pardubice goalkeeper and Orli led 3:1. In the next course, the viewer’s eye could see attractive up-and-down hockey and chances appeared on both sides. In the last three minutes of the period, Znojmo faced the powerhouse Dynamo. Fortunately, the home team did not let the visitors into a more serious opportunity and the Orli went into the last part of the game with a two-goal lead.

In the third period, both teams brought fast hockey again. Tomáš Svoboda presented himself dangerously, who after a pass from Šťovíček was close to his sixteenth goal of the season. But Vomáčka was one hundred percent in this situation. At 47:38, Pavel Jenyš stood in the way of Kaplan, and was punished with a two-minute penalty. Orli seemed to be able to counter this Pardubice advantage again. However, two seconds before the end of the power play, Dominik Groha, active today, found a free spot at the left goal post A cup. Dynamo reduced the difference to one goal. The final minutes were again in the spirit of tougher situations. The one-goal difference factor certainly contributed to that. Especially when we take into account the importance of points for each team from this duel. The guests from Pardubice got the last big chance to turn the game around after Bartko hit one of the Dynamo players with a stick in the face. But this advantage did not last long. One of Pardubice’s most experienced players – Tomáš Kaut – was guilty of possession. The Gingerbread team played the last few seconds without goalkeeper Tomáš Vomáčka, who went to the substitutes, but even this advantage did not change the fact that Znojmo managed to get more valuable points.

Testimonials from coaches

Tomáš Jakeš (Znojmo): We did well in the first period. We entered the match aggressively. The second third fell apart for us. We played a power game in which we unfortunately conceded and that made us insecure. Then we wanted to get back into the match. We managed to do that after a while and we were a balanced opponent again. It was a fight for every meter, there were a lot of personal battles and towards the end we got a little nervous. Anyway, I would like to congratulate the boys and thank the fans. We have to stay humble and keep fighting.

In the first phase, we play power plays with five attackers. The boys are smart, they can handle the puck. But sometimes it happens that the opponent reads it well. The winning streak we have now was started by players who play power plays and we had no reason to change that.

Tomáš Jirků (Pardubice B): It was an inexcusable performance from our side in the first period. We played terribly and Znojmo took the lead. We had to say it emphatically in the cabin. In the second period, our performance improved. We scored a contact goal and had a lot of other chances. Unfortunately, we got an unlucky third goal from the blue line. The shot went on the ground and it should not end in our goal. It helped Znojm a lot, but we gathered all our strength and reduced the difference to one goal again. Unfortunately, we haven’t found a recipe to even the score. I think the result was decided by the first period, which we fell asleep in, which is why we leave without points.
