In addition to the director Pavel Jandourek, the author of the theme Kamila Teslíková and the art historian Ladislava Horňáková from the Regional Gallery of Fine Arts in Zlín participated in the script of the documentary. The film was shot in urban settings from spring to autumn 2022, and had its ceremonial premiere for a closed circle of viewers as part of this year’s Zlín Film Fest.
“Our city, which until now was more of a textbook example of modern urbanism and austere functionalism, has also highlighted the adjective garden thanks to the Czech Television project and its studios in Ostrava. Finding out that Zlín is the largest garden city in the world is another and certainly tempting invitation for the public throughout the country to visit and tour it.” said Mayor Jiří Korec.
He also recalled that his guide, actor and native of Zlín, Jan Šťastný, also gave the documentary a stamp of exceptionality. “The actor, who has never forgotten Zlín, added credibility to the film, because he does not accompany the audience along a learned path, but through places he knows intimately and has a personal relationship with.” added Korec.
According to the author of the subject, Kamila Teslíková, the intention of the document was to show the direct connection between the architecture of the city of Zlín and its history. “Bať’s architects gave Zlín the feel of a garden city, and very elegantly and cleverly fulfilled the assignment they received from the management of Bať’s enterprises. In our documentary, among other things, we managed to show the beauty of the brick masonry, which is so typical for Zlín, as well as the stylistic regularity of Zlín’s buildings, while at the same time bringing closer the unique construction system of this exceptional city.” added dramaturg Teslíková.
The documentary Zlín – the city in the gardens will have its television premiere today at 9:10 p.m. on the ČT Art station.
