More than 3,500 players from all over Europe participated in the San Remo tournament
25-year-old Zlatin Penev won the open poker tournament at the San Remo casino. The first place brought him a prize of 280 thousand euros. The second – the Austrian Andreas Frauli, left with 170 thousand euros, and the third was the Italian Gaetano Montagno with 110 thousand.
More than 3,500 players from all over Europe signed up for the San Remo tournament (April 30-May 9). The prize fund exceeded 1.6 million euros. Within a week, over 6,000 people flocked to the beautiful Ligurian municipality for the tournament, which means huge revenue for local tourism. Small town, big money, as observers have commented.
Penev is from the Adriatic town of Riccione, Emilia-Romagna region, where he has lived with his mother since he was a child. He has been passionate about poker since he was 16 years old and has recorded other big prize money wins over the years. In the summer of 2022, he also won a tournament in Malta.
This year’s Sanremo Casino Open Poker Tournament (IPO Sanremo) set a real record with the results achieved for the local economy and for the city’s image. Mayor Alberto Biancheri also expressed his satisfaction with the event and its importance for the municipality. A series of side tournaments and games were held alongside the tournament.
