Zlatan Ibrahimovic, 40, is currently working on the book “Arenalina” where he shares “unknown stories” from his career. In the summer of 2016, the Swede was recruited to Manchester United from Paris Saint-Germain – but it was close that the transfer never happened.
In the book, Zlatan describes how the negotiations with the club dragged on. The days passed and the 40-year-old waited patiently to sign the contract at the home of agent Mino Raiola in Monaco, who urged Zlatan to be patient.
But after the Swede had not heard from Manchester United for over a week, he decided to take matters into his own hands. In a social media post, Zlatan wrote that he was ready for United, which was not true.
“The fact is that I go on Instagram and write: ‘My next club will be Manchester United’. I was so tired of the negotiations that I did not think that Manchester was listed. You can not make similar announcements if the matter is not clear. Hell broke loose. Mino wanted to kill me “, Zlatan writes in the book according to Aftonbladet.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic says that Ed Woodward, CEO of United, went wild when he saw the post. In the same vein, the Swede was forced to apologize to the club’s management.
“‘It’s just my fault, Mino Raiola has nothing to do with it. I lost patience, that’s all. It felt like I was standing in quicksand trying to do something to move forward, without thinking about the consequences. If the deal goes awry now, then it’s so, we’ll let it go. I’m done wrong. I apologize once again ‘”, writes Zlatan according to Aftonbladet, and tells of Woodward’s response to the apology:
“‘You’ve ruined a five million pound promotional plan.’ “They had planned a surprise campaign and a presentation with special effects à la Hollywood. And I ruined everything with an update on social media”.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic describes his first year at Manchester United as “fantastic”. In total, the 40-year-old Swede played 53 matches in the United shirt and was noted for 29 goals and ten assists.
