Zlatan Ibrahimovic suffers new injury setback for AC Milan

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has injured his right calf, AC Milan confirmed on Saturday. A new injury which seriously mortgages his end of the season even if his club has assured to keep a “little hope” that he can play again before “the end of the championship”. The Lombard club does not comment on recovery times, indicating that “we have to see how the situation develops”.

The 41-year-old striker was injured while warming up before coming into play last Sunday against Lecce (2-0). This injury is a new setback in an almost white season for the Swedish star, unavailable until February after having surgery in May 2022 on his left knee, just after Milan’s 19th league title.

Not registered in the Champions League – AC Milan is qualified for the semi-finals – the ex-PSG player was only able to play four league games, including one as a starter, despite all the time finding the time to become the scorer the oldest in Serie A history thanks to a penalty scored against Udinese on March 18.

A few days later, at the gathering of the Sweden team, Ibra said he still hoped to play Euro 2024 in Germany next year, at 42 years old.

But this season almost without playing questions the possibility of seeing him continue his career until this next international deadline. Ibrahimovic, who returned to Milan in January 2020, a great architect of the return to the top of the Rossonero club, Italian champions last year and in the semi-finals of the Champions League this season, is out of contract in June. Neither he nor his club have yet communicated on a possible extension.
