Zlatan Ibrahimovic has criticized European superstars for moving to Saudi Arabia.
For the Swede, who ended his career at AC Milan after last season at the age of 41, Cristiano Ronaldo and Co. are putting their legendary status at risk.
“You should be remembered for your talent and not your earnings,” the former striker said on Piers Morgan’s Uncensored Show.
He himself also had offers from Saudi Arabia, but then asked himself: “What goals do you have here?”
Therefore, he is of the opinion: “Once players have reached a certain level, they should extend their careers on the big stage.”
From his criticism he explicitly excludes the players who are not among the best-paid professionals and who have therefore decided to move to the Saudi Pro League.
In the summer, Saudi clubs spent almost a billion euros on superstars such as Neymar, Karim Benzema and Sadio Mané. Ronaldo sparked the hype in Saudi Arabia in January with his move to Al-Nassr.
The fact that Saudi Arabia is criticized for its worrying human rights situation would not be a reason for Ibrahimovic to refrain from making a move.
“A moral issue? No. We do what we do for ourselves and our family,” he said. “Who will judge you for this in five or ten years when you are rich and have a nice life?”
