Zion Eriksson Breaks Personal Record and Qualifies for U23 EC in Finland

JUNE 28, 2023 | 7:51 | MATHIAS KARLSSON

On Wednesday evening, Zion Eriksson set a new personal record in the 100 meters and at the same time passed the qualification limit for the U23 EC in Finland. With 10.41 (+1.6), Zion steps in as second on the Swedish year’s best list. “A relief. And fun! I had to pass the qualifying limit of 10.50 this week to be able to go to JEM,” says the Falusprinter.

It was at the Boysen Memorial in Oslo that Zion Eriksson bettered his previous personal record of 10.46 by five hundredths and the 21-year-old feels that there is more in his body.

– It was good conditions, but there is more to take off at the start. Then I had a strong finish, but I hope to do a low 10.3 this season. And my coach (Torbjörn Eriksson) says that it looks very promising for the 200 meters, says Zion, who had planned to run the 100 meters at the World Youth Games as well but now may be thinking twice.

– Now I’ve qualified for the 100, so maybe I’ll run the 200 meters in Gothenburg instead. We’ll see.

Zion had the third fastest time overall at Bislett and was second in his heat. IFK Växjös ran in the same race as Zion Thomas Jones which was recorded for 10.51, a new season’s best but a despicable hundredth from 10.50.

There was a Swedish victory in the men’s 5,000-meter race where Spårvägen’s Oliver Löfqvist won in a new personal best 13:48.59. Poured Arvid Öhrn was third in 13:53.44, a new personal best by about 13 seconds.

In the women’s three-step competition tangent Emelie Nyman Wänseth, Östersund’s GIF, her personal record of 13.53 that she set in 2019. The result was enough for fourth place in the competition and Emelie climbs to fourth place on the Swedish annual best list. Ear stew Rebecca Abrahamsson was fifth in Oslo with 13.32.

In the men’s 800 meters, it was a new personal record for Hälle’s 1,500-meter specialist Samuel Pihlström with 1:48.32, exactly one second faster than the previous best mark.

In the men’s pole, Hammarbys beat Theodore Borgius outdoor pers with 5.10. The 20-year-old finished fourth in the competition.

Here you will find all the results.
