“Zing Your Strong: An Online Exercise Program for Cancer Patients and Survivors”

More than 50 people have now taken part in the pilot and the initial results are promising. ‘Not being a patient for a while’ is what many of the participants experience as a unique value in the programme. Being positively engaged with body and condition, and being able to relax better are other aspects that are mentioned after participation. Almost everyone also notes that breathing has become calmer and more aware. Without exception, the participants would highly recommend Zing to others.

Start (free) pilot round: 22 May

In the week of May 22, another 6-week course will start. This round is also still free of charge for patients who are being treated for cancer or who have just completed their treatment, thanks to the support of Friends of Meander Medisch Centrum. You can register via www.zingjesterk.nl.

Plan

The online exercise program Sing your strong combines breathing, singing and relaxation exercises. Pleasure in singing, restoring confidence in your own body and meeting other participants are central to this. There are online group sessions every week, followed by four practice days in which participants independently perform breathing and singing exercises using exercise videos. The sessions are led by professional singers from Wishful Singing and other conservatory trained singing teachers.

Because the sessions take place online, Zing offers you great added value for people whose mobility has decreased due to illness, fatigue or pain. In addition, fear of infection with a (corona) virus can have a negative impact on social life and lead to them not daring to undertake group activities outside the door. Singing together online is for some participants the first enjoyable activity in a long time with others outside their own small circle.

During the program, participants work on their condition in a positive way and, where possible, take small steps towards recovery. This improves the quality of life within the limits of the moment.
