‘Zillion’ launches first trailer and will open for one more weekend in the Waagnatie in Antwerp

The very first images of the film Zillion by Robin Pront have been launched. The film about Frank Verstraeten’s infamous disco will be released in theaters on October 26. The real club was demolished in 2017, but on Friday 28 and Saturday 29 October you can experience it one more time in the Waagnatie.

Flashing lights, confetti and hundreds of dancers are featured in the very first trailer of Zillion. Matteo Simoni plays the role of Dennis Black Magic, he lost some kilos and let the characteristic ring beard grow. Charlotte Timmers takes on the role of Verstraeten’s (fictional) girlfriend. The role of Verstraeten himself is reserved for Jonas Vermeulen, known for, among other things, Studio Tarara in The Eleventh Of The Eleventh.

Kevin Meul wrote the screenplay together with Robin Pront. Robert Heyvaert (D’Ardennes, Patser, Bad Boys For Life) takes care of the camera work. FBO, known for Callboys in Day, is producing the film in co-production with Woestijnvis and Millstreet Films. “The scenes in the Zillion itself were not shot in the same place,” Pront said in an interview earlier, “but in different discotheques and even in places that are not nightlife at all.”

Crime drama

Zillion becomes a crime drama that does not shy away from anything,” says Pront. “Not the glory moments, not the painful crash that followed. At the same time, it becomes an ode to a unique period when you had gods of nightlife. It will be very recognizable for those who were young in the 90s, but at the same time I want to highlight unknown elements. Few know, for example, how Frank Verstraeten got so much money to start the Zillion.”

Loyal and new fans alike will have the opportunity to relive the iconic Zillion nightlife culture of the nineties with a show in the Waagnatie that will be “even bigger, even better and even more impressive”. “More light, more laser, more fireworks, more confetti, more acts, … In short: even more Zillon.” The resident DJs from then also come and play their very best records. Tickets for the film and the party cost about 70 euros.
