A new case of the Zika virus was detected on Sunday in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, the Press Trust of India (PTI) reported.
The patient is said to be an Indian Air Force (IAF) officer in the Kanpur district of the state.
After the patient started showing strange symptoms, samples of his blood were taken and sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV), located in the city of Pune (southwest), according to PTI.
The agency quoted a senior medical official as saying the patient had suffered from a fever for many days.
After this case was detected, samples were taken from more than 20 people who came into contact with the patient and were sent to the NIV for examination.
India has already experienced Zika virus epidemics in the past, mainly in the state of Kerala (south).
