Zidane just watched; Deschamps is going nowhere
Manager Didier Deschamps leads reigning world champions France on a thrilling ride. Although seven key players, including Karim Benzema and Paul Pogba, were lost ahead of the tournament, the coach is carrying the team forward without making mistakes.
There have been previous reports that Deschamps will step down as France manager after this World Cup. The possibility of an early exit from the tournament is also high.
But with the team performing well and reaching the semi-finals, there are now reports that Deschamps will continue as manager. According to French media Le Parisien, Deschamps will remain with the team as France coach until 2024.
It is also said that even if France were to go out in the semifinals of this World Cup, no one would oppose its continuation. Deschamps, who reached the Euro Cup final in 2016 and won the title ahead of Portugal, failed to win the title in the 2020 Euro Cup. Fans are hoping that by staying with France until 2024, he can win another European title.
Meanwhile, Deschamps’ delay in leaving the French outfit will keep team legend Zinedine Zidane waiting. There were earlier reports that Zidane will take over as manager of the French team and because of this he has turned down the position of PSG manager.
France Qatar entered the semi-finals of the World Cup by beating England by two goals to one in the quarter-finals. In the 17th minute Choumeni scored the first goal for France.
Harry Kane scored a 54th-minute penalty to equalize for England. Olivier Giroud scored France’s second goal in the 78th minute.
England were awarded the subsequent penalty in the 82nd minute. However, England captain Harry Kane squandered his penalty and became the villain. It is France’s sixth World Cup semi-final appearance and second consecutive World Cup semi-final appearance.
In the last World Cup held in Russia, England lost in the semifinals against Croatia. England had previously been eliminated in the fourth in 2006.
France will face Morocco on 15 December at 12:30.
