The French cannot consider Euro 2020 a successful tournament for themselves – “Les Bleus” dropped out of the competition already at the level of the 1/8 finals, succumbing to a fierce Swiss match in penalties. While there was a lot of talk about the fact that national team coach Didier Deschamps would be sacked or step down himself, Noel Le Graet, president of the French football federation, repeatedly denied these reports.
Le Graet emphasized several times that he did not intend to stop working with Deschamps and – as various media reported – the conversation about the future of the coach in the squad was short, concise and ended with an agreement on further cooperation.
Now, according to the daily “Marc”, some doubts have arisen around Deschamps, and Zinedine Zidane is to be the main candidate for his replacement.
“Zizou” has a trophy-free season at Real Madrid behind him – he did reach the Champions League semi-finals with the “Kings”, but the team from the Spanish capital finally succumbed to the future winners, Chelsea. There was also no title in the domestic market – Real did not win either the championship or the King’s Cup.
Eventually, Zidane decided to leave the club. At the same time, he was to be reluctant to embrace another European football giant in the near future.
As “Marc” emphasizes, taking over the representation would be a good solution for the French in such a case. The diary indicates that “Zizou” did not have to move from Madrid for his job and he would have avoided a lot of the stress of working at the club, such as having to attend matches from week to week.
One sports team nevertheless tried to tempt the former manager of “Los Blancos” to take the club job. It was supposed to be Juventus, who tried to communicate with Zidane after Andrea Pirlo was fired and before Massimiliano Allegri was hired. This one, however, remained unmoved.
In addition to Zinedine Zidane, Laurent Blanc, Arsene Wenger and Thierry Henry are among the candidates to take over the French team.
