Zhuang Mulun Breaks National Record, Wins Gold in Men’s 50-Meter Backstroke at National Games

[Reporter Wu Mengru/Tainan Report]Zhuang Mulun, the “backstroke king” from Kaohsiung City, won the gold medal in the men’s 50-meter backstroke final of the 112th National Games today with a time of 25.36 seconds, breaking the national record, creating three consecutive championships.

Zhuang Mulun only set a new record in the 50 meters at the Hong Kong Open in August this year with a time of 25.38 seconds, and is the national record holder for Taiwanese men’s 50, 100 and 200 meters freestyle.

This year’s National Games will be hosted by Tainan City, but the swimming event will be held at the National Sports Center Swimming Pool in the North District of Taichung City. Zhuang Mulun today took the first place in the group in the 50-meter backstroke preliminaries with a time of 25.64 seconds. In the evening finals, he increased his horsepower and clocked 25 seconds. He was the first to hit the wall with a time of 36.0 seconds, and successfully updated his own national record. As for Tainan City’s Wu Liangyun, he plated silver in 25.60 seconds, and Taoyuan City’s Lin Yusheng won the bronze in 26.93 seconds.

Zhuang Mulun will have 100-meter and 200-meter backstroke events next, and he will strive to win consecutive championships in both events.
