Zheng – Vekic. Match result. Who won? Olympic Games Final Paris 2024

Qinwen Zheng is the Olympic champion! The Chinese player defeated Donna Vekic 2:0 (6:2, 6:3) in the grand finale and won her first medal of the event. Earlier, the 22-year-old closed the door to the final to Idze Świątek.

The first set started as the Chinese player wanted. She won the first two games and then had no trouble breaking her opponent. Vekic entered the match very slowly, improving her game minute by minute. However, it was not enough for the well-disposed Zheng. The Chinese player won the first set decisively – 6:2.

The second also started with the Chinese breaking the Croatian. In the third game, Vekic broke her opponent for the first time in this match and “came back” to the game. Her next serve turned out to be very important for the fate of this match. After a good few minutes, the Croatian managed to win and equalize. The games started to get longer and the competition became more and more even. In this war of nerves, Zheng turned out to be much calmer and it was she who ended the match after an hour and 45 minutes.

The gold medal at the Games is the biggest success in the career of the 22-year-old Chinese player. She has won three WTA tournaments so far: twice in Palermo and once in Zhengzhou. In 2024, she was also in the final of the Australian Open. She lost to Aryna Sabalenka 3:6, 2:6.

Iga Świątek won the bronze medal. The Pole defeated Anna Karolina Schmiedlova 6:2, 6:1 on Friday.

The men’s final will feature Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic. This will be their second clash this year. They previously faced each other in the Wimbledon final, where the Spaniard triumphed. The men’s gold medal match is scheduled for Sunday.
