“The last day of the competition is the happiest day of participating in the Winter Games. It is very happy to win the championship with everyone in the team event.” Zhao Jiawen said, “The state of participating in the team competition is better than that of participating in the individual event. It was much better during the project, I felt like I was in the zone and my mind was very clear.”
The Nordic combined events of this “14th Winter” will be held at the National Ski Jumping Center and the National Biathlon Center, the competition venues of the Beijing Winter Olympics, with individual standard platform + 10km cross-country skiing and individual big platform + 10km cross-country skiing. There are three events in total: skiing, men’s team big jump + 4X5 kilometers cross-country skiing relay, attracting 41 athletes to participate.
Zhao Jiawen, who made China’s Nordic combined “Winter Olympics debut” at the Beijing Winter Olympics, is still shining brightly among the top domestic athletes. In several competitions, his platform performance was far ahead of other competitors, and he was also among the top in cross-country skiing. His comprehensive ability of “jumping and sliding” was outstanding.

Talking about the goal of participating in the competition, Zhao Jiawen said: “All I want to do before the competition is to do my best and show my best self. I have had a serious cold recently, which has had some impact on my physical fitness, so after completing all the competitions, I will be more confident about myself.” The performance is quite satisfactory.”
Comparing the results of the Beijing Winter Olympics, we can see that Zhao Jiawen has made significant progress in platform diving. In this regard, he said: “After the Beijing Winter Olympics, my ability has indeed improved somewhat, and the most important thing is that I have improved a lot on the diving platform.”
“On the one hand, my abilities have improved, and on the other hand, through participating in the Winter Olympics, I have become familiar with the weather in Chongli and the conditions of the venues and venues here, so it feels good to return to this venue to compete in the ‘Fourteenth Winter’. My ability and performance have improved a lot.”
Zhao Jiawen was a cross-country skier who switched to Nordic combined training in 2017. This may be the turning point of fate: He ushered in the highlight moment in this project-in the winter of 2021, he qualified for the Chinese team for the first time in history to participate in the Nordic Combined Winter Olympics. At the Beijing Winter Olympics, he became one of the last torchbearers, completed the Nordic combined events, and also participated in the ski jumping mixed team standard platform competition.
After the Winter Olympics, because of coach Mika Kojonkoski, the “No. 1 in Nordic combined in China” spent a lot of time training in Finland and also participated in some local competitions. As a world-class ski jumping coach, Kojonkoski has coached the Austrian, Finnish, and Norwegian national teams. The master and apprentice had many “chemical reactions” during their long-term contact.
“Because of him, I have improved a lot mentally. He is a big supporter for me. He can give me support and comfort. Many times I don’t believe in myself, but with him, he can make me trust yourself.”

Zhao Jiawen said frankly that he encountered some difficulties during the previous transition from summer training to winter training, and he overcame them with the help of his coach. “Mainly injuries. When I was abroad, I was always alone, without a rehabilitator or a therapist. I was injured twice before. Treatment and rehabilitation were relatively expensive and could only be treated conservatively, so there was some accumulation of injuries. That period Time, my competitive condition cannot improve, and the psychological pressure is quite high, but luckily I have my coach.”
On social platforms, this 23-year-old young man will share his training, competitions, and life every day. He also wrote some words to encourage himself during the injury period: “Falling will make you stronger and clearer. Clean up the dust with a smile and let We have the courage to move forward, the belief that we must win, and we defeat our weak selves.”
According to the plan, after the “14th Winter” competition, Zhao Jiawen and the team will stay in Chongli to train until mid-February, and then go abroad for training and competition. Zhao Jiawen said: “There will be a World Cup match in March, but my body still needs to recover and adjust. I hope that I can adjust to a good state by then.”
