Zhang Zhiyong, the director of the Golden Horse Award “Shahe Elegy” died at the age of 68

Lam Zuwei, president of the Film and Audiovisual Culture Center, said on Facebook today that director Zhang Zhiyong has died at the age of 68. “Shahe Elegy” directed by Zhang Zhiyong depicts the life of You Sing written by Qi Dengshen, and received the Special Jury Prize at the Golden Horse Awards. Lam Zuwei said on Facebook today that Zhang Zhiyong is a native filmmaker and has followed directors Ding Shanxi, Jin Aoxun, Wan Ren, Ke Yizheng and others as assistant directors.

Zhang Zhiyong’s first feature film “A Bird Roars and Chirps” won the Best Film Award and the Special Peace Award at the 42nd Asia Pacific Film Festival. The second feature film “Shahe Elegy” recreates the life of you singing written by writer Qi Dengshen, from the opera troupe to the story of Nakaxi in the restaurant, received the Special Jury Award at the 37th Golden Horse Awards and the best at the 45th Asia Pacific Film Festival Director and Best Music Award.

Lan Zuwei said that Zhang Zhiyong has big hands. In his later years, he heard that he was a farmer in Chiayi to grow vegetables and fruits. He used to walk to keep healthy. Regarding Zhang Zhiyong’s death, Lan Zuwei said, “I can’t stop sighing when I die suddenly, Amitabha!”
