It is about Bosselaar Zuid district. Suspicious material was found in several places there. Laboratory tests show that it is indeed asbestos. In other places, only soot particles have been found.
On Thursday evening, a large fire raged in four sheds on the Huizersdijk in Zevenbergen. Firefighters arrived around 6:20pm and put out the fire. The damage to the sheds is extensive. It is not known what was stored in the sheds. The cause of the fire is also unknown.
The asbestos comes from corrugated metal on the roof of the sheds. They exploded from the heat. Asbestos particles fell all over the neighborhood due to the wind.
Even before the results of the investigation were known, the municipality of Moerdijk, which includes Zevenbergen, initiated an extraordinary cleanup of the neighborhood. Among other things, the municipality has set up a car wash. Specialists in protective suits started the cleanup operation.
Wat is asbest?
Asbest is een kankerverwekkende stof. Als je asbestdeeltjes inademt, kunnen die vast komen te zitten in de longblaasjes. Dat kan kanker veroorzaken.
It is unclear how long people have to stay indoors
The municipality announces that all residents of the neighborhood must stay at home. It involves several hundred people. They have to abandon the car and the bicycle. They are only allowed to walk the dog briefly and must clean the paws of dogs and cats when the animals have been outdoors.
If residents have to go out or have been out, they must leave their shoes there. Primary schools and sports clubs in the area are closed.
It is not yet clear how long these measures will last. According to an asbestos removal company, the neighborhood cleanup operation is a good job, he writes Brabant broadcasting. It could take days.
Council hopes to be able to provide clarity to residents when more research results are known. Parts of the neighborhood may be released, but this is still uncertain.
