Zeps: The shadow of suspicion and unfounded insults was not acceptable for ‘Latvia’s development’

Riga City Council deputies could not accept the shadow of unfounded suspicions, so the decision was made to leave the joint “Development” / “Progressive” faction, explained the former deputy head of the faction, Riga City Council deputy Viesturs Zeps (LA).

According to him, the shadow of suspicion was increased by occasional questions of unexplained origin to LA party members, as well as proposals, even urges to leave the party.

Zeps did not deny that one of the reasons for leaving was also the inability to work in the same faction with Māris Mičerevskis, who recently left LA and made various accusations against the party. The politician believes that Micherevsky is no longer able to control his public statements.

Zeps explained that in such a situation it is fairer to cooperate with partners, members of his party and voters to form his own separate faction and to continue cooperation in the coalition by directing his proposals in the coalition cooperation council.

The politician emphasized that he would continue to support the Riga City Council coalition, as LA is part of it. “We are part of the coalition, part of those who wrote its program and action plan,” Zeps said.

He has discussed the situation with cooperation partners and is currently convinced that LA representative Iveta Ratinika should retain the position of the head of the Education, Culture and Sports Committee of the Riga City Council. The professionalism of Ratinika in matters of education is also highly appreciated by the coalition partners.

Zeps stated that the goal of LA’s departure from the faction was by no means a desire to rock the coalition, especially at a time when the Riga City Council is facing a very difficult budget adoption.

“We have worked correctly so far and we have left the faction correctly to continue working in the coalition,” Zeps added.

The politician admitted that he would most likely lead the LA faction.

As reported, three LA deputies – Zeps, Anete Jēkabsone-Žogota and Iveta Ratinīka – have decided to leave the mayor of the capital Mārtiņš Staķis (APP) faction in the Riga City Council, however, the deputies have promised to remain in the coalition.
