Zenon Martyniuk is one of the most popular disco polo stars in Poland. He can be heard at events organized by TVP, as well as during concerts in various Polish cities. The author of such works as “Through your green eyes” or “Przekorny fate” was also supposed to play in Poznań. As it turns out, the concert was canceled after the protests.
The singer of the Akcent band was supposed to sing during the event “The end of the carnival with Zenon”, which was to take place in the hall of the University of Adam Mickiewicz. Although initially the Poznań university made its room available, problems soon began. Local people of culture did not like the fact that the disco polo band would play in a place associated with performances, among others laureates of the Chopin Competition. Members of the Poznań Youth City Council also expressed their opposition.

Until recently, the university did not intend to withdraw from the idea. “There are not only competitions and performances by classical musicians, but also popular artists of popular music. Tastes are not discussed. Whether we approve or not, disco polo music exists in the public space” – said the UAM spokeswoman in an interview with “GW” Malgorzata Rybczynska.
Concert Zenon Martyniuk with the band Akcent was scheduled for February 20. Councilor Michał Grześ informed during the session of the City Council that the event would not take place. “Disco polo is a border that cannot be crossed,” he said.
Currently, the page where you could buy a ticket for the event reads: “The event has been canceled and sales have been paused.”
