Zenit midfielder Dmitry Vasiliev, commenting on his loan to Orenburg in 2022, said that he no longer wants to play anywhere other than the St. Petersburg club.
In December, Zenit announced the extension of the contract with Vasiliev until 2028. The 19-year-old midfielder is a graduate of the Blue-White-Blues.
— In the winter of 2022, you ended up in Orenburg, which then still played in the first division. What did this experience give you?
— I went there with (Danila) Khotulev. It was like a dream to go to adult football. I am 17 years old. I see Orenburg, first place in the FNL, I definitely need to pack my things! I wasn’t worried at all about leaving home. I arrived, and there were bearded grandfathers in the locker room (smiles). I played there for six months and realized: I don’t want to play anywhere other than Zenit.
— How difficult was it to get used to the First League after several matches for Zenit-2 and MFL?
– Then I was fine. But now I look back and understand that everything was difficult. For the first time I found myself in a new team and in a different city, there was no one nearby. You sit and do nothing.
— At Orenburg you managed to work with Marcel Lička.
— It was fun with him, he plays interesting football. All-out, strong, a lot of attacking play. He’s interesting, he constantly shouted something in Czech and some other languages,” Metaratings.ru quotes Vasilyev.
This season, Vasiliev played nine matches for Zenit in all tournaments.
