Commenting on height differences is “problematic” and “misogynistic,” say TV stars Tom Holland and Zendaya. The two had to kiss in the most recent Spider-Man and were told comments on certain scenes that show her being bigger than him.

Last Friday Zendaya and Tom Holland appeared, who in Spider-Man: far from home play the lead roles in a talk show of radio station Sirius XM. They spoke about the “ridiculous social expectations” placed on relationships.

When presenter Jessica Shaw started asking the couple – also in real life the two couples – about their visible height difference during an on-screen kiss in Spider-Man, Holland said: “She’s not that much bigger, let’s just say that right here. It’s a few centimeters. It’s not like people wonder how it’s physically possible for us to kiss.”

The two think it is a “dumb assumption” that it would even be a problem. “This is normal,” Zendaya said. “My mother is taller than my father. My mother is taller than everyone else. And that is not strange.”

“When we did the screen tests for Spider-Man, every girl was taller than me,” Holland said. “I don’t know if that was a conscious choice by director Jon Watts. There was no one smaller than me. Maybe his intention was to break that stereotype, I think it’s great.”
