“Zemlika” festival will be held in Durbe for the thirteenth time

On October 18 and 19, the music, art and local harvest festival “Zemlika” will be held in Durbe for the thirteenth time, informs the organizers of the event.

Without size, intentions, scope, full of need, without deciding any destinations and without improving the quality of life, the festival “Zemlika” usually has the opportunity to experience events in the music, theatre, visual arts and cinema. There will also be a market of the products of farmers, artisans, as well as honest and environmentally friendly processors, which has become a tradition. There will be unexpected surprises outside the “official program” of the festival.

The Durbe festival takes place in several places. In the usual places – in the Durbe Culture House, Ata Kronvald’s historical school building, Ata Kronvald’s Durbe primary school, Durbe Lutheran Church, old shop building and the festival bar “Akacis”. Also in the private areas that have become familiar over the last few years – for example, the old Durbes bookstore, the Durbes winery, where the telephone switch used to be, the public bathroom and more here and there, including under the open sky. The main part of the festival – music, will be represented by 17 concerts of different musicians and groups over two days. From guitar music to modern academic music, from folk music to electronic dance music.

It is usual that the two nights of “Zemlika” start with concerts in the Durbe Lutheran Church. On Friday, one of the rare concerts of the new quartet of the Norwegian musician and composer Jo Berger Myhre, who was known earlier at the festival, and a solo concert with the pianist Vicky Chow, member of the New York ensemble “Bang On A Can All-Stars”, playing Philip Etudes from the First Book by Philip Glass, and on Saturday the debut of the new duo of the percussionist Guntar Freiberg and the pianist Robert Fleitz, playing a program of chamber music by John Luther Adams and the American musician, performance artist and writer at the request of the festival JJJJJerome Ellis appearance.

Right next to the church, a few steps up Skolas iela, is the already mentioned historic Ata Kronvalda school building, which, since the first festival, has hosted musicians on stage small, comfortable and often intimate, which are usually appreciated. belonging to folk and world music genres, sometimes also songbirds and traveling individuals. In autumn, the Latvian musician Aldis Kolosovs travels there with his group, “Ligas pH3” and “Grēcīgie partizāni” collectives, as well as foreign guests – Estonian sister “Otekse” and Norwegian guitarist, author of original music Jo David Meyer Lysne.

Further along Skolas Street, almost to the end, to the House of Culture Durbe, where the largest of the levels, which are usually also higher and later. This fall, the Ukrainian artist Svitlana Nianio, surrounded by secrets and legends, the group “Elder Ones” led by the Indian-American singer Amirtha Kidambi, the French-Polish quartet “Lumpek” and the Italian group, which has been waiting for Durbe because the first festival, for at least 13 years, will be in this fall. It’s Friday. The festival will end on Saturday at the Culture House with the performances of the Latvian musician “Sign Libra” and the artist of Chinese origin living in Berlin “Otay:onii”, as well as the “Kee Avil” Canada and the French cosmo. -disco group “Zombie Zombie”.

Currently, two-day subscriptions are available for sale, which include attendance at the above concerts and the number of them (taking into account the capacity of the Durbe Lutheran Church) is very limited. When they expire, one-day and two-day tickets without the opportunity to attend performances in the church will go on sale.
